These antique mantel timbers can average 200+ years of age! The ages of these
wood timber beams were 100+/- years old when harvested for the construction-coupled with the
fact that most structures the timbers were used for average 125-150 years old or more,
making for a truly genuine, antique fireplace mantel. Old growth, virgin timbers are a very rare find!

The hewn timber beam (HTB) mantel, the front face and bottom can be hand hewn to replicate
an antique wood mantel shelf, surfaced smooth flat, or a semi round log
mantel profile. Please specify your preference when ordering.
Custom fireplace mantel sizes are always available.

Options you can add to Timber Mantels
*Open notches, notch plugs, pegs and dowels: Back in the 1800's, master craftsmen used
wooden pegs and dowels to connect the timber joints. Notches were made with
chisels/mallets to join the intersecting timber members. Dowel pegs that project
slightly can simulate a knot-a nice addition! These details can be added to your
mantel, to preserve a true antique mantel design.

OPEN NOTCH FILLED PEG AND NOTCH OPTION
*Corbels for mantel shelf. Fireplace mantels can be customized by adding the lower corbel
timbers. Available profiles are flush front, angled, concave, or other.
